Celebrity Sightings
Let's start with the most important news: who's here? Well, I'm happy to report that we've had some serious star power show up this year. I spotted George R.R. Martin eating a turkey leg in the food court (surprise, surprise). Neil Gaiman was spotted chatting up fans in the hallway (and looking fabulous, as always). And rumor has it that Patrick Stewart is planning a surprise appearance later today. Can you say "engage"?!
Panel Highlights
I've been bouncing from panel to panel like a pinball, trying to catch all the best sci-fi and fantasy authors and experts in action. Here are some of the highlights:
- "Wizards vs. Aliens": This panel was a real doozy. J.K. Rowling and Stephen Hawking got into a heated debate about the plausibility of magic vs. science. Let's just say there were lots of sparks (both literal and figurative).
- "How to Build a Better Starship": This panel featured William Shatner, LeVar Burton, and Wil Wheaton arguing about the merits of warp engines vs. hyperdrives. At one point, Shatner tried to sell everyone on a new design he came up with called the "Shatner Drive." Needless to say, it did not go over well.
